  • Is Psoriasis contagious?

    Definitely not!

  • Is there a cure for Psoriasis?

Many people have been told that there is no cure for psoriasis and for this reason there is no point in trying to treat the disorder. Because psoriasis is a genetic disorder, it is true there is no cure for it. Certainly, we cannot cure psoriasis in the same sense that we can cure an infection with antibiotics so that the problem is laid to rest forever.

This does not mean that psoriasis cannot or should not be treated. On the contrary there is a wide range of very effective treatments that will bring psoriasis under control and enable the individual to lead a normal life. (A major concern with all forms of psoriasis treatment is that of side effects. This is a different issue and will be discussed later.)

Remissions are obtained with treatment, but no doctor can guarantee that an individual will never be troubled by psoriasis again in the future.

Does psoriasis typically spread over the body, or can it remain in a single area?

    • Patricia

Hi Mike, thanks for your question. Psoriasis can be isolated to one area but unfortunately can also cover other parts of the body. We always recommend contacting a GP for information specific to your Psoriasis.

I’ve read some information online that suggests people have used Cow Udder cream for treatment of psoriasis with successful results. What would your opinion be to this and has anyone tried it here.

    • Patricia

Hi there, thank you for your question. A really good question. Yes, quite some years ago Cow Udder cream was used for Psoriasis, it was known to be successful for some. The Health Dept banned the use of it though. I will do some research as to why and get back to you.

Hi, have been told cow udder ointment was banned because it had not been subjected to the trials and tests to make sure it was safe for human use. Googled Cow Udder Ointment, found it interesting. Hope this helps

Is Psoriasis a condition for the elderly?

      • Patricia

No Ann, Psoriasis is not only for the elderly. It does not discriminate against age. It is said most people are diagnosed under the age of 30.

    • Patricia

Hi, I have been told nobody dies of psoriasis. Is that true?

      • Patricia

Thanks for your question Keith. Each year, we are told, suffers are hospitalized and some may die from complications. Recent research shows psoriasis is associated with risk factors for other noncommunicable diseases (NCD ) diabetes, heart disease, Crohn’s disease and more. I am sure GPs are well informed and could answer any queries you might have.
